Weekend Warriors, Let's Go! How to Maximize 48 Hours to Explore the Outdoors

Although we're always outdoorswomen at heart, many of us are working to make a living or going to school five days out of the week. That leaves us with two days to explore the outdoors, making every minute of those 48 hours count. When you're passionate about the outdoors, it's important to plan ahead and maximize these precious weekends. There's no such thing as waiting until a two-week vacation to make memories and spend time in the wilderness.

We're sharing our best tips on how to charge into the weekend feeling like your best self and how to give yourself rest and energy pick-me-ups over the weekend to keep the stoke level high. Also, as we know, things don't always go as planned, so you'll want to think of a few key things ahead of time. Weekend warriors, let's go!

Take these tips to level up your 48 hours off and make your coworkers wonder how you fit it all in.

Rest and hydrate in the days leading up to the weekend

The workweek can suck our energy, leaving us feeling drained and sluggish by Friday night. Take care of your body during the week knowing that you'll want to have energy reserved for your favorite outdoor activities.

Make sure that you drink plenty of water each day (aim for a gallon!) as it's an easy and impactful way to maintain your energy, recovery, and overall health. Make it a point to get your rest each night leading up to the weekend, don't rob yourself of a fun weekend by staying up late binge-watching a show.

Have a Plan B for your outdoor fix

As outdoorswomen we know how quickly the weather can change, or other conditions that are our of our control. The wind might be too strong or the tide might be too low depending on what you're trying to do. Having another activity prepared for you to pick up in case your plan A is delayed or canceled ensures that you'll still get your outdoor fix.

Ahead of the weekend, make a plan for which of your outdoor hobbies you want to explore in your days off. Pack your vehicle with everything you'll need for that activity, plus one more.

Check the weather forecast more than once

Nothing puts a damper on your outdoor weekend plans like unexpected weather! Check the weather forecast early in the week for where you're headed, and check it once or twice more before you go to make sure that you know what to expect.

Knowing whether to dress for rain or sun can make it easier to organize your weekend outerwear. That way you'll have your necessary layers pulled out and ready to go, making it quicker for you to get out the door.

Plan and pack protein snacks

When your energy dips, your body need more protein to power up. Planning high-protein snacks ahead of time will give you that energy boost throughout your weekend to keep you going.

Packing hard boiled eggs, cheese. jerky, and protein bars can quickly give you the nutrients and energy when you need it. Making sure you eat a proper serving of protein while you're being active and burning calories can help you refuel and prevent you from crashing or grabbing a sugary snack or drink.

Get your poop in a group early in the week

That's right - get your poop in a group, girl! Get your stuff together early in the week - don't put it off until Thursday! Take care of your errands and chores in the first half of the week so you don't feel torn between your responsibilities and your outdoor passions.

It's so easy to feel like we can't go out into the wilderness all weekend and enjoy ourselves because we have too much to take care of. Make sure you get your adulting done on Monday and Tuesday, even if you don't feel like it, so you've earned your time to explore, guilt-free.

Give yourself time to kick back

Outdoor activities are just that - active. They keep us moving and out in the elements. If you've been working hard all week you are likely in need of some rest, too. Waking up early to set off on that hike or bike ride might make it feel like you're sacrificing your rest, so take this tip and chillax.

Bring a hammock, fold-out chair or book with you and take an hour or more to kick back and relax throughout your weekend, too. Take deep, full breaths, enjoy the view or close your eyes for a while and listen to the sounds of nature as you doze off. Get back at it when you feel refueled.
